Our Best Secrets for Smoother Body Skin

The quest for smoother skin is one that seemingly never ends. But with a few skincare routine tips, you too, can have the smooth body skin of your dreams. Here are a few ways to make it happen.

Cool Your Showers Down

Hot showers are relaxing no matter what time of year it is. Unfortunately, they could be one of the biggest obstacles in your way of achieving smoother body skin. If you truly want to see smoother skin all over your body, it might be time to say goodbye to those extra hot showers you love so much. Water that’s too hot can strip away all of your skin’s natural oils and lubricants. Without those natural moisturizers from your body, you could be facing rough, dry skin. When you dehydrate your skin like that, it’s making it that much more difficult for your moisturizer to actually do its job and keep your skin supple and smooth. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should be taking freezing cold showers! Simply cool the water down just a little bit and maybe also consider shortening your shower times. Your skin will definitely thank you.

Protect Your Skin from the Elements

Whether it’s sun damaged skin or frostbite you fear most, the weather doesn’t have to be extreme to cause rough, dry skin. If you want to experience smoother skin all over your body, it’s going to be in your best interest to protect it from all the elements. That means wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every time you plan on going outside and covering up with sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats in the summer. In the winter, or when the weather is cold and blustery, wear a scarf and gloves to protect your skin. Harsh elements, like sunlight, cold air, and wind, can break down your skin’s natural barriers and cause dryness. So, if you want to avoid a skin rash and other potential forms of skin damage, make sure you’re protecting your body and extremities from the elements.

Invest in Regular Exfoliation

Exfoliation should be a part of everyone’s normal skincare routine. While you should avoid it if you’re undertaking skincare for sun damaged skin, exfoliation is very important for smooth skin in any other instance. But when you want to exfoliate, you should ultimately leave it up to your dermatologist. Exfoliation methods, like chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, and microdermabrasion, are the safest ways to exfoliate the skin on your body when left to your dermatologist. Investing in these treatments regularly can help you achieve and maintain the smooth, supple skin you’ve always wanted.

Moisturize Every Day

Last but certainly not least, moisturizing daily is key if you want to achieve smoother skin on your body. If you have naturally dry skin, make sure you’re using an oil-based body lotion that will help you retain as much moisture in your skin as possible. Oil-based moisturizers can also help if your skin isn’t producing enough natural oils to begin with. The best time to moisturize is after you’re out of the shower and completely dry. The warm water from the shower will leave your skin better off to absorb moisture and you’ll leave your bathroom with the smoothest skin ever.
