How Do You Exfoliate Your Skin?

Did you know that skin conditions affect every 1 in 3 Americans? Studies suggest that some skin conditions can be treated with a rigorous skincare routine to give you radiant skin.

When you are looking into creating a skincare routine, consider skin exfoliation. Exfoliation will eliminate dead skin cells and dirt and increase blood circulation.

Are you looking for ways to get brighter skin? Keep reading to learn how to exfoliate your skin!

Skin Exfoliation: What to Use

There are several methods for exfoliation. A chemical exfoliation will include cleansers, toners, and moisturizers. They often contain lactic, citric acid, or other chemicals that will break the bonds holding the undesired debris to your skin.

You can also manually exfoliate your skin without using chemicals. This type of exfoliation would include:

  • Brushes
  • Sponges
  • Gloves
  • Scrubs

Over-the-counter exfoliation solutions may help reduce mild acne. However, if you notice little to no difference, you may want to schedule an appointment with a trusted dermatologist.

Exfoliate Your Skin: Different Areas

Depending on your skin type, you might need to exfoliate different areas of your face and body.

For example, you will benefit from diligent exfoliation if you have oily skin, while normal skin will require a less thorough method.

If you want to have brighter skin all around, we recommend a full-body exfoliation. Here is what to do for each body part.

Face

Your face has some of the most sensitive skin on your body, so treat it delicately. Think of it as a gentle massage. Whether you are using a physical exfoliant or a chemical peel, apply it softly in a round, circular motion. Rinse your face afterward, and don’t forget to moisturize.

Arms and Legs

Arms and legs can often become neglected in our skincare routine. However, they are just as important as your face.

If you see an uptick in dry skin, it might be time to exfoliate those puppies! Use a physical scrub, such as a glove, brush, or sponge.

You can also buy a scrub that you can use in the shower.

Hands and Feet

Your feet especially will need exfoliation from time to time. Feet, and at times hands, will have callouses that can cause pain and friction.

To avoid the build-up of callouses and other dead skin cells, exfoliate every week.

An excellent option for your feet is to use a pumice stone. These are made by dipping lava into cold water. The rough surface can do wonders against callouses.

Several chemical peels and scrubs are available that might benefit your hands and feet.
